I spent some time today doing some of the basic basic tutorials on w3schools and it helped a lot because I could get used to the syntax before starting to add the extra variables in that we were dealing with in class.
...still don't feel completely comfortable with it yet though.

Thank you for the helpful words, Sharon and Larry! I guess I'll just keep reading those tutorials until I have some sort of epiphany.
